Although it is not explicitly mentioned in the press release, all the signs are that this project has been approved for funding as a Flagship action in the last BBI JU call. Construction of the biorefinery will begin next year at the Urbaser “Alfonso Maíllo” R&D&i Center and at the Zaragoza Urban Waste Treatment Complex (thanks to the collaboration of the Zaragoza City Council) and will have a global budget of 23 M€.

The CIRCULAR BIOCARBON project is aimed to open new business frameworks based on a new circular vision of the urban solid waste and the sludge treatment, pursuing SDG number 12. Some of the products that will be obtained are: carbon coatings of diamond type, graphene, biobased fertilizers and plastics, proteins, struvite, ammonium salts and algal biostimulants.
