The plant is a first-of-a-kind demo facility using sustainable hardwood biomass as raw input material to produce sugars and lignin. Construction works started in July and the cornerstone-laying ceremony took place in October. Delivery of certain equipment and instruments have been delayed due to COVID-19 outbreak. Nevertheless, all preparations are in place to start with commissioning as soon as pandemic related restrictions allow.

SWEETWOODS consortium had a productive review meeting in Brussels at the beginning of March where external experts took a closer look at our progress and confirmed that SWEETWOODS project is on track. With the first 18 months a lot of progress with novel lignin and cellulosic sugars applications has been made.
