ACD (Aquitaine Chimie Durable), Aerospace Valley consortium, Agri Sud Ouest Innovation, CCI Pau Béarn, Chemparc, Euralis, Pau and Pays de l'Adour University, Safran Helicopter Engines, Teréga and Xylofutur will study the feasibility of producing aviation biofuels in southwest France.

A Letter Of Intent (LOI) has been signed in the presence of the President of the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Signatories to the LOI will evaluate local capabilities and skills in the fields of agriculture, chemicals and energy to produce and distribute sustainable aviation biofuels. Airports, air bases and industry will benefit from the proximity of a sustainable, certified and "drop in" (no engine modification required) fuel source for local use. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region possesses excellent resources which can be used to develop this production.

The latest version of the standard ASTM D7566, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) specification, adds a seventh annex approving a new pathway for the production of SAF. ASTM D7566 - 20 (updated May 5, 2020) - Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuel Containing Synthesized Hydrocarbons. Figure 1. Södra puts into operation a biomethanol plant at its pulp mill in Mönsterås

Over the next few days, a first pilot delivery will go to Emmelev A/S , a customer that will be using biomethanol in its biodiesel production.
