agriwaste (extracted from the press release)
The project was unveiled just before
the end of 2016
during the event PETROTECH 2016. BPCL signed an agreement with Praj (technology
licensor) for setting up the plant. In February 2018, the oil company gave the formal confirmation for Praj to
start the basic engineering and the design package.
The proposed production capacity of this plant is
100 kL per day of fuel grade ethanol meeting specifications as per IS
15464:2004. Rice straw shall be the design feedstock while maize stalk will be
the check case. The project will assist in addressing growing environmental
concerns and supporting the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) program. The
Government of India is encouraging production of cellulosic ethanol from
agricultural residues to provide additional sources of remuneration to farmers.
In addition to reducing environmental pollution due to burning of agricultural
waste, the project will enhance the nation's energy security.
