In this way, the Federal Government bundles its previous activities in this field and sets the basis for further development. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will be in charge of the activities.

The strategic goals of the National Bioeconomy Strategy are:
- To develop bioeconomic solutions for the sustainability agenda.
- To recognize and tap the potential of the bioeconomy within ecological limits.
- To expand and apply biological knowledge.
- To align the resource base of the economy sustainably.
- To make Germany a leading country in the bioeconomy innovations.
- To involve society, intensify national and international cooperation.
The new bioeconomy strategy is part of the Federal Government's activities to achieve its climate protection goals and the goals for sustainable development of the United Nations.

Some interesting statements of the Federal Agriculture Minister (Julia Klöckner) and the Federal Research Minister (Anja Karliczek):
- "As central raw material producers, our farmers are the pillars of the strategy.”
- "Tires made of dandelions, car doors made of hemp fibers or rubber boots made of corn. These are just a few examples that illustrate the potential and practical relevance in research.”
- “Climate change is forcing us to rethink. We have to do everything we can to maintain our livelihoods and remain economically strong. The bioeconomy is a key to both.”
- “A sustainable economy not only helps us to achieve our global sustainability goals but secures us a long-term position in the markets of the future."
