Repsol selects Axens Vegan technology for its advanced biofuels plant

Repsol has selected Axens Vegan® technology for the advanced biofuels plant (HVO biorefinery) to be built in Spain at its Cartagena refinery.

One of the undisclosed points in the press release which confirmed the construction of the new plant was the technology behind the process. After the recent press release from Axens, the mystery is solved. The scope of French company includes the supply of process books, catalysts and adsorbents, proprietary equipment, trainings and technical services. 

The new plant will be capable of producing 250 ktons per year of of biodiesel, biojet, bionaphtha and biopropane. Vegan® technology is able to hydrotreat a wide range of lipids and to produce low-density and high cetane renewable diesel as well as renewable sulfur-free jet fuel.
