Last month, GCEH reported about the acquisition of the Alon Bakersfield refinery and its refurbishment to produce renewable diesel from organic feedstocks. The retooled refinery will produce 15,000 barrels per day of HVO meeting the California Low Carbon Fuels Standard as well as the ASTM D975 diesel specification.

Topsoe will deliver basic engineering, license, proprietary equipment and catalyst for its HydroFlex technology. The unit will process a variety of feedstocks including GCEH’s proprietary camelina oil as well as waste fats and oils. HydroFlex can be deployed in both grassroots units and revamps for co-processing or stand-alone applications. For instance, it will be used in the first European dedicated biorefinery for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, SkyNRG and SHV Energy are building in the Netherlands.
