Avantium will open its Zambezi pilot biorefinery next month

Type of post: FLASH NEWS.

- Avantium has just announced that it will officially open the pilot biorefinery for its Zambezi technology (plant-based non-food feedstock to high purity industrial sugars and lignin) in Delfzijl (Netherlands) next month (see press release, 28/6/2018). Opening ceremonies will take place in Amsterdam on 10 July and in Delfzijl on 13 July.
- It is a very important milestone and the company is already looking beyond the pilot phase with a consortium of partners committed to developing a commercial-scale plant. Other potential partners around the world have also expressed interest in licensing the technology for local deployment.
- The province of Groningen is supporting the pilot biorefinery with a RIG (‘Regionale Investeringssteun Groningen’) subsidy of 1.8 M€.
