Canadian government invests in Woodland Biofuels

The Government of Canada has announced two
investments totalling more than C$4.7 million in Woodland Biofuels. Bioenergy
is a key part of Canada’s plan to combat climate change while growing the
economy.

The investments will go toward two innovative
initiatives that will create jobs, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and develop first-of-their-kind technology in Canada’s forest sector:

and support detailed engineering activities, enabling Woodland’s first
commercial-scale ethanol facility.

Headquartered in Toronto, the company will
integrate these projects in its cellulosic
ethanol demonstration plant located in Sarnia (Ontario) at the Bio
Industrial Innovation Centre. The plant has successfully produced ethanol from
waste biomass using a combination of gasification and catalysed chemical
reactions.
