InKemia to build its first advanced biofuel plant in Portugal

Type of post: NEWS IN BRIEF.

InKemia IUCT Group (InKemia) reported on January 30th that Inediteneptune, lda., Portuguese company of the group 99,98% controlled by InKemia Advanced BF, ltd. (IABF), has received the approval to build its first plant for producing the advanced biofuel o-bio developed by the group (see the provision of relevant information to the Spanish Alternative Stock Exchange Market, 30/1/2018).

The notification has been issued by a competitive programme managed by the Instituto de Apoio às Pequenas e Médias Empresas e à Inovação (IAPMEI) which belongs to the Ministry of Economy of Portugal. The approval results in a fund awarded by the institute with the support of ERDF funds of the EU. The aid amount is 9.4 M€ and the total investment of the project comes to 23.5 M€.

IAFB, company registered in London, was established in 2016 by InKemia to commercialize a biofuel production technology developed and patented after more than 15 years of research. Its product S50 (it could be the same o-bio mentioned in the provision of relevant information) can be generated from crude glycerin, algal oil or waste oil. It is an ester derived from natural fatty acids that contains glycerol in its molecular structure. Its physicochemical properties and heat content are very similar to those of conventional biodiesel. The introduction of the product into diesel blends results in a cleaner combustion and it can be blended in significantly high proportion.

I shall try to bring more information about the project and the process soon.
