Eni and Pertamina join forces to build a biorefinery in Indonesia

Last September, Eni and PT Pertamina (Persero) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for extending their previous partnership to include the biorefining field. The alliance continues to strengthen and, now, the companies have just signed a new MoU to cooperate in the areas of circular economy and renewable energies.

According to the press release, the companies:
- signed a basic agreement for a joint venture dedicated to the construction of a biorefinery within an existing complex in Indonesia;
- signed an agreement on the use of Eni's biorefining assets in Italy that will allow hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to reach the Indonesian market;
- agreed to explore opportunities in waste transformation and biomass valorisation processes: waste to fuel, waste to hydrogen, sewage sludge conversion into biomethane production by anaerobic digestion, advanced biofuels from biomass, chemicals from biomass;
- agreed to explore opportunities in the field of recycle and re-use: water treatment, polymer recycling technologies, eco-design to maximize final products recycle.
