Cortus Energy and Swedish Biofuels to jointly develop a biojet fuel plant based on forest feedstocks
Type of post: NEWS IN BRIEF.
Cortus
Energy AB
(Cortus) and Swedish Biofuels AB
(SB) have signed a preliminary agreement on cooperating with the goal of
jointly developing a commercial plant for production of bio-jet fuel based on forest
feedstocks and alcohols during 2019. In addition to green jet fuel, the facility
will be able to produce other valuable products such as liquid transportation
fuels and chemicals. The first discussions about the land, logistics, fuel and
licensing, were held recently. The plant would supply the needs of the Stockholm
Arlanda Airport.

The facility will be based on a combination of
the technologies of both companies:
- Cortus: WoodRoll®. It is a process to converts
wood into synthesis gas by gasification. Cortus has two WoodRoll® plants in
Sweden: a test facility in Köping running since 2011 and a commercial facility in
Höganäs under construction with planned start-up in 2019.
- SB: catalytic process to produce transportation
fuels and chemicals from alcohols and syngas. SB has been manufacturing and
selling biojet at small scale for ten years. The product meets current
standards for aviation fuel and has been successfully tested by the US and
Swedish defense and civil aviation.
