ExxonMobil and Renewable Energy Group report progress in cellulosic biodiesel research.
By utilizing REG’s patented fermentation technology, the companies’ joint research program has demonstrated the ability to convert sugars from a variety of non-edible biomass sources into biodiesel.
The companies have agreed to extend the research program based on their positive findings and are excited to continue to jointly explore the technology’s potential for scalability.

Enerkem's Edmonton waste-to-biofuel facility receives registration approval from US EPA to sell its ethanol under the US Renewable Fuel Standard.
The facility has successfully completed all the necessary steps required by the EPA and is the first ever municipal waste-to-cellulosic ethanol plant to receive approval to sell in the United States.

Lygos reaches major technical milestone scaling Bio-Malonic™ manufacturing process in partnership with NREL.
It was achieved at the NREL´s Integrated Biorefinery Research Facility.
The joint work by Lygos and NREL was conducted under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) and funded in part by a $300,000 Small Business Voucher awarded to Lygos from the US DOE.

Researchers from the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) have received a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to begin a three-year project to perform a multitude of techno-market analyses of US biorefinery supply chains from feedstock to alternative jet fuels.
In addition to analyzing biorefinery supply chains and feedstock, the researchers will lay the groundwork for a Southeast biorefinery.
