Biorefining Fortnightly Update – 2017/11 Part 1
NEWS IN BRIEF
ExxonMobil and
Renewable Energy Group report progress in cellulosic biodiesel research.
By utilizing REG’s patented fermentation
technology, the companies’ joint research program has demonstrated the
ability to convert sugars from a variety of non-edible biomass sources into
biodiesel.
The companies have agreed to extend the
research program based on their positive findings and are excited to continue
to jointly explore the technology’s potential for scalability.

Researchers from the
University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) have received a grant
from the Federal Aviation Administration to begin a three-year project to
perform a multitude of techno-market analyses of US biorefinery supply chains
from feedstock to alternative jet fuels.
In addition to analyzing biorefinery supply
chains and feedstock, the researchers will lay the groundwork for a Southeast
biorefinery.
