This September in Madrid – ISBP2016, ITAKA Final Workshop and the Annual SYNPOL Course
Three important events related to biopolymers
and biofuels fields will take place this September in Madrid. Below, you can
find a brief outline for each of them. If you are interested, the complete
information is available in the links.
15th International
Symposium on Biopolymers – ISBP2016
General information
Dates: 26–29 September 2016.
Venue: Hotel Rafael Atocha.
Registration: www.isbp2016.com/registration/general-information.
Aim
The International Symposium on Biopolymers
(ISBP) is a successful congress series on biopolymers that has been held every
two years since 1988. The traditional spotlight of ISBP has been on biopolymers
like polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), cellulose and rubber. ISBP2016 will also
extend the focus to other biobased polymers like PLA or bioPET, including talks
on the biotechnological production of building blocks to generate biobased
polymers (biodegradable and non-biodegradable).
ITAKA Final Workshop –
Biojet in Europe: The Way Fordward
General information
Dates: 13–14 September 2016.
Venue: Palacio de Cibeles, City Hall of Madrid.
Registration: www.itakamadrid2016.eu/registration.html.
Aim
The workshop will bring together ITAKA project partners
and key stakeholders to discuss the final results of the initiative, share
experiences and views, exchange best practices, evaluate emerging issues and
jointly take the next steps towards the successful development of biofuels for
aviation in the near future. It will talk about feedstocks, sustainability, production
capacity in Europe, policies, emissions reduction, advanced technologies and
practical approaches.
About ITAKA
The Initiative Towards sustAinable Kerosene for
Aviation (ITAKA) is a collaborative project that has been working on the
deployment of the entire value chain of advanced aviation biofuels in Europe (from
feedstock to end users) since 2012.
4th Annual
SYNPOL Course – Biopolymers
from bacterial fermentation of syngas
General information
Date: 9 September 2016.
Venue: Auditorio del Centro de
Investigaciones Biológicas (CIB‐CSIC).
Registration: drzyzga@cib.csic.es (Oliver Drzyzga). No
course fee but limited access.
Aim and structure
Introduction to the bacterial fermentation of syngas
for the biotechnological synthesis of value‐added products.
The course will be structured into two
sections. The first section (“Syngas fermentation basics”) will address topics on
bioreactor design and control as well as some examples of CO/CO2 fermenting
bacteria. The second section (“Industrial point of view”) will deal with actual
operational issues of industrial processing systems.
About SYNPOL
SYNPOL is a collaborative project from the EU FP7.
Its basic idea is the establishment of an integrated processing technology for
the efficient synthesis of cost-effective commercial new biopolymers using the
products derived from fermentation of syngas generated from very complex
feedstocks.
