Bharat Petroleum planning to set up a lignocellulosic biorefinery
Bharat
Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), an Indian oil and gas company headquartered
in Mumbai (Maharashtra), is planning to set up a biorefinery for producing
ethanol and other chemicals. BPCL is currently exploring business opportunities
with potential stakeholders.
The facility would be fed with lignocellulosic biomass
feedstocks such as sugarcane bagasse, rice and wheat straw, corn cobs and cotton
stalks. The minimum capacity of the proposed biorefinery would be 15,000 tons
of ethanol per annum. Correspondingly, the biomass supplier is expected to
supply a minimum of 75,000 – 80,000 tons dry biomass per annum (minimum 220 tons
dry biomass per day). The final location of the project shall be in the
vicinity of the operations of selected biomass supplier and would be determined
in discussions with all the project stakeholders.
BPLC has issued two calls for an Expression of Interest
in order to know the availability of potential:
Technology providers/licensors (see EoI
details).
Technology provider would be responsible for
providing end-to-end process technology, preparation of detail engineering and
design of the plant, supply of other raw material (including enzymes),
maintaining the product quality and provide corresponding performance guarantee.
Unfortunately, the blog became aware of this EoI
right after the deadline (May 18th).
Biomass supplier (see EoI
details).
Biomass Supplier would be responsible for
aggregation, storage and regular supply of quality biomass feedstock to the biorefinery.
The deadline of this EoI is May 30th.
