Borregaard fue fundada en Sarpsborg en 1889 bajo el nombre de Keller
Partington Paper and Pulp. La primera entrega de pulpa disuelta para textiles
en 1921 y la primera producción de bioetanol procedente de madera en 1938,
constituyeron los primeros hitos de su transición de un proceso enfocado
únicamente en la pulpa y el papel a un proceso centrado en la diversificación
de productos. En 1960, Borregaard comenzó su producción de biovanilina y
productos basados en la lignina. Actualmente, con un portfolio de productos que
incluye especialidades basadas en la lignina y la celulosa, bioetanol, vanilina
y otros productos de química fina, la biorrefinería de Borregaard provee a un
nicho global de mercados que abarca los sectores de la construcción, de la
agricultura, de la alimentación, del transporte y farmacéutico. Borregaard was originally
established in Sarpsborg in 1889 under the name Kellner Partington Paper and
Pulp. It began its transition from traditional pulp and paper production towards
production of specialised products symbolised by its first delivery of
dissolving pulp for textiles in 1921 and production of its first biochemicals
made from wood, bioethanol, in 1938. In the 1960s, Borregaard began production
of wood-based vanillin and lignin-based products. Currently, with its product
offering within lignin-based products and specialty cellulose, as well as
bioethanol, vanillin and fine chemicals, Borregaard biorefinery serves global
niche markets in a wide range of applications including construction,
agriculture, food and beverages, transportation and pharmaceuticals.
