CBE JU concludes the evaluation of its first call for project proposals

The first CBE JU call invited project proposals across 12 different topics, with the objective to advance competitive circular bio-based industries in Europe, as well as develop new circular and sustainable products and solutions for the market. 125 proposals were submitted to this call, requesting more than 600 M€ in funding. Based on the evaluation results and available CBE JU budget, 21 of them have been selected for funding: two innovation actions - flagships, eight innovation actions, ten research & innovation actions and one coordination & support action. The successful applicants and the CBE JU Programme Office will now start preparing grant agreements to be signed by the end of May 2023 for a total amount of nearly 120 M€.

Mini-planta de ácido glucárico a partir de glucosa es puesta en marcha con éxito

Noticias recientes sobre una de las piezas elementales sostenibles con mayor proyección. Rennovia Inc.  y  Johnson Matthey Process Technologies anunciaban el 16 de este mes que habían puesto en marcha de manera exitosa una mini-planta para la producción de ácido glucárico a partir de glucosa con tecnología propia. En Marzo de 2014, estas dos empresas se pusieron de acuerdo para desarrollar, demostrar y comercializar tecnologías catalíticas para obtener ácido glucárico y ácido adípico a partir de fuentes renovables. Bajo esta colaboración, Rennovia y JM Process Technologies trabajan juntos en procesos basados en la tecnología de Rennovia para la oxidación catalítica de glucosa a ácido glucárico y la hidrogenación catalítica de este último a ácido adípico. There are four possible isomers for this molecule: n-butanol, isobutanol, tert-butanol and sec-butanol. Their different structures have a straight impact on their physical and chemical properties. Type of post: OVERVIEW. Introduction Bioethanol produced from fermentation of sugar based crops is the major product of the biofuels industry [1]. But, ethanol is not a “drop-in” solution and requires substantial changes in refining or distribution infrastructure. The properties of this alcohol (an oxygenated single molecule) are largely different than those of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel blendstocks (mixtures of hydrocarbons), leading to problems in blends. Ethanol can cause corrosion problems in transport pipelines that were designed to work only with gasoline. In the specific case of the aviation fuel, there are stricter quality requirements than fuels used in road transport. Ethanol shows low compatibility as a blendstock for aviation fuel because of its high volatility and water absorption and low flash point and energy density.
