Las instalaciones de Manchester constituyen una biorrefinería integrada formada por la fábrica de almidón de Cargill y la planta de bioetanol de Royal Nedalco. Estas empresas, cuyas plantas son contiguas tanto en Reino Unido como en Holanda, han sido compañeras de negocios durante muchos años. De hecho, Cargill completó la adquisición del negocio de alcoholes de Royal Nedalco a su matriz Royal Cosun en 2011. En Manchester, Cargill procesa trigo y maíz en almidón y derivados, proteínas de trigo y glucosa. La planta de procesado de trigo suministra a Nedalco azúcares fermentables para su producción de alcohol. Manchester facility is an integrated biorefinery of Cargill starch industry together with Royal Nedalco bioethanol plant. These companies, whose operating plants are adjacent to each other in both the UK and the Netherlands, have been business partners for many years. Actually, Cargill completed its acquisition of Royal Nedalco's alcohol business from its parent company Royal Cosun on 2011. In Manchester, Cargill processes wheat and corn into starches, starches derivates, wheat proteins and glucose. The wheat processing plant supplies Nedalco with fermentable sugars for its alcohol production process.

Type of post: OVERVIEW. Introduction Bioethanol produced from fermentation of sugar based crops is the major product of the biofuels industry [1]. But, ethanol is not a “drop-in” solution and requires substantial changes in refining or distribution infrastructure. The properties of this alcohol (an oxygenated single molecule) are largely different than those of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel blendstocks (mixtures of hydrocarbons), leading to problems in blends. Ethanol can cause corrosion problems in transport pipelines that were designed to work only with gasoline. In the specific case of the aviation fuel, there are stricter quality requirements than fuels used in road transport. Ethanol shows low compatibility as a blendstock for aviation fuel because of its high volatility and water absorption and low flash point and energy density.
