Type of post: NEWS IN BRIEF. With an indicative budget of 115 M€, the fifth call of the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (H2020-BBI-JTI-2018) opened last week (11 April 2018) to address the main technological and innovation challenges that need to be overcome in order to develop sustainable and competitive biondustries in Europe. The call closure is scheduled for 6 September 2018. After two months of proposal evaluations, the results are expected to be sent to applicants in December. All the relevant information can be found in the BBI JU website and the Participant Portal (the official EU funding communication channel). Also, it is important to mention that there is a Partnering Platform where online profiles can be created, allowing a better interaction with other potential BBI JU Call applicants. Figure 1. Tipo de entrada: NOTICIA. Boreal Bioref Oy (Boreal) tiene la intención de construir una planta de bioproductos en Kemijärvi (Finlandia). La biorrefinería podrá procesar 2,8 millones de m 3 al año de madera procedente de podas y astillas de madera y generar 500.000 toneladas de biomateriales y productos roductos químicos renovables al año. Boreal y China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) firmaron un contrato EPC mutuamente vinculante relacionado con la nueva planta en abril del año pasado (véase “ China CAMCE construirá la biorrefinería de Boreal Bioref en Finlandia ”, 10/4/2017). Type of post: NEWS IN BRIEF. Boreal Bioref Oy (Boreal) has plans to build a bioproduct mill in Kemijärvi (Finland). The biorefinery will process 2.8 million m 3 /year of thinning wood and wood chips and generate 500,000 tons of biomaterials and biochemicals per year. Boreal and China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) signed a mutually binding EPC contract related to the new plant in April last year (see “ China CAMCE will build the biorefinery of Boreal Bioref in Finland ”, 10/4/2017). The plans to construct this biorefinery in Kemijärvi have moved a step closer to implementation with the signing of a detailed letter of intention of investment between Shanying Investment Management Co., Ltd. Tipo de entrada: PERFIL DE PROYECTO. El año pasado, el Blog publicaba una entrada sobre los proyectos flagship de la BBI JU (“ Proyectos flagship de la BBI JU – La nueva generación de biorrefinerías avanzadas en Europa ”, 17/7/2017). Se trata de iniciativas que apoyan el lanzamiento de una innovación que ya ha sido demostrada pero que todavía no ha sido comercializada e incluyen la construcción de una instalación única en su clase y a gran escala. En la fecha en que se escribió aquella entrada, se habían firmado 5 acuerdos de subvención para flagships entre la BBI JU y el consorcio del proyecto y se suponía que un sexto flagship estaba pendiente de ser concedido bajo la convocatoria del 2016.
