BASF starts biobased polyol production in India

BASF has begun production of its first biobased polyol, Sovermol®, in Mangalore, India. This product serves the fast-growing demand of eco-friendly products for applications in New Energy Vehicles (NEV), windmills, flooring and protective industrial coatings in Asia Pacific. Utilizing the existing facilities at BASF’s Mangalore site, the Sovermol production facility is now operational after comprehensive planning and construction. Sourced from renewable materials, Sovermol contains zero volatile organic compounds (VOC). Sovermol products are used to produce sustainable coatings and adhesives for various industries, enabling customers to reduce their carbon footprint and to save resources.

It is a naturally occurring aldaric acid, typically found in small amounts in a variety of fruits and vegetables. It is a highly functionalized compound with four chiral carbons and a plethora of reaction pathways. Proman to market the biomethanol produced by the Varennes Carbon Recycling plant

Varennes Carbon Recycling, the waste to biofuels plant in Varennes (Québec, Canada) has now reached financial close, with investment agreements signed by Proman and its partners (Enerkem, Shell, Suncor, the Government of Québec). As part of the investment agreement, Proman will be entitled to market the methanol produced, which, once the plant is in operation, could make Proman the largest marketer of biomethanol globally. All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest airline (on the basis of fleet size), has signed an offtake agreement with LanzaTech that will allow it to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a significant step in ANA's efforts to minimize its environmental impact. By working with LanzaTech to implement SAF, ANA hopes to enhance the quality of fuel used in its aircraft while also meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of its efforts to become the most eco-friendly airline group in the world.
