Small-scale biorefining report published by WUR

A very short update on small-scale biorefining. An interesting report about this matter is available in the web page of IEA Bioenergy Task 42 biorefining since last May 11th. It has been issued by Wageningen University and Research (WUR) that is very active in that field. I take this opportunity to remind that the Blog launched recently a specific section on small-scale biorefining. There, the link to this report has just been added to a list of resources that will grow progressively.

The report publishes the main results of a Public-Private Parthership (PPP) between over 35 market stakeholders and WUR aimed to facilitate the market deployment of small-scale biorefineries. This kind of facilities is a promising way to accelerate the implementation of the bioeconomy at the regional level but technical and non-technical barriers yet prevent wide market implementation. The document gives the reader a glance into several business cases developed during the 4 years (2013-2016) that the PPP lasted. Among them, green leaves for protein extraction, sugar refinery to produce platform chemicals and the optimal use of aquatic plant biomass to process water waste streams.
